چکیده

Intestinal glutathione S-transferase activities were measured during the GEEP Workshop in flounder Platichthys flesus collected from Langesundfjord, Norway. Though enzyme activities were generally higher in fish collected from 3 polluted sites by comparison with a reference site, the only significant differences in activities between the 3 sites ran counter to the anticipated pollution gradient. The results suggest that intestinal glutathione S-transferase activity may not be a sensitive indicator of pollution exposure under field conditions.

Genetic polymorphism and its potential relation to environmental stress in five populations of the European flounder Platichthys flesus, along the French Atlantic coast.

In this study, new DNA markers were explored for the flounder Platichthys flesus. cDNA and genomic sequences of the genes encoding the glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate-deshydrogenase (GAPDH), the cytosolic creatine kinase (CK), the prostaglandin D synthase (PGDS) and the betaine homocysteine methyltransferase (BHMT) were characterized. The tumour suppressor p53 gene structure was already described. A...

Hepatic microsomal mono-oxygenase activity in flounder Platichthys flesus from polluted sites in Langesundfjord and from mesocosms experimentally dosed with diesel oil and copper

Hepatic ethoxyresorufin 0-de-ethylase (EROD) and benzo(a)pyrene hydroxylase (B(a)PH) activity in flounder Platichthys flesus increased along a pollution gradient in Langesundfjord, examined during the GEEP Workshop. EROD activity in fish from a reference site was around 100 pm01 min-' mg microsomal protein-', increasing 5-fold at 2 moderately polluted sites and a further 2-fold at a more highly...

Relationship between biomarker responses and contaminant concentration in selected tissues of flounder (Platichthys flesus) from the Polish coastal area of the Baltic Sea

Previous studies in the Gulf of Gdańsk discussed the responses of selected enzymatic biomarkers to the contaminant gradient in fish and mussels. In the present study, flounder muscle and liver tissues were analyzed for polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB congeners: 28, 52, 101, 118, 138, 153 and 180), organochlorine pesticides (HCHs, HCB and DDTs), and trace metals (Pb, Cd, Zn, Cu, Hg, Cr). An attem...

Biliary PAH metabolites and EROD activity in flounder (Platichthys flesus) from a contaminated estuarine environment.

The present study in the Firth of Forth, Scotland, emphasises the usefulness of biliary metabolite measurements in estuarine monitoring using the flounder (Platichthys flesus). The short time scale (a few hours) of response to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) exposure, allowed clearer interpretation of trends and differences between sites. Such differences and trends in the metabolite data...

Measurements of biomarker levels in flounder (Platichthys flesus) and blue mussel (Mytilus trossulus) from the Gulf of Gdańsk (southern Baltic).

In the framework of the EU funded BEEP project a set of biomarkers, gross morphometric indices and tissue concentrations of selected organic pollutants were measured in flounder (Platichthys flesus) and mussels (Mytilus trossulus) collected twice a year (April and October) from three sites in the inner Gulf of Gdańsk between autumn 2001 and spring 2003. In flounder, seasonal differences in most...
